We did it!

We managed to make our very own Thanksgiving dinner. Granted, we had to go to FOUR stores to find half of a turkey breast, but we did it. In the end we realized that the turkey hunt was a waste of time because neither of us really like turkey and got grossed out. But tht was fine because while we were eating dinner, Roxy attacked the plate of turkey leftovers. The sides were good....stuffing, creamed spinach, and some sort of sweet potato thingy I made up.

I read your blog and have been anxious for updates! Thanksgiving dinner looks pretty damn good! We had capon cause we aren't big on turkey either. My dad turned me on to it - it's a neutered rooster, I think (chicken instead of turkey). May be just as hard to find as a 1/2 turkey breast...

A capon is a rooster (a male chicken) whose testicles were removed at a young age. (too graphic!?) Typically the castration is performed when the chicken is between 6 and 20 weeks old.
The benefits are a non-aggressive male that can serve as a mother for baby chicks. They also produce ample, tender meat when butchered and as such are a choice poultry meat in some locales.
Capons taste great due to the high fat content, they are self-basting.
